E.Leclerc Valréas : A multi-faceted approach for effective energy management

E.Leclerc Valréas, a member of the vast national network of E.Leclerc stores, has embarked on an initiative to control its energy consumption, a necessity given the growing challenges related to energy costs and environmental impact.

The E.Leclerc network, with over 700 stores across France, is renowned for its cooperative model and commitment to sustainable practices. To enhance its energy performance, the Valréas store, already equipped with a monitoring system, sought the expertise of specialists. Cleaneo was thus engaged to conduct a comprehensive energy audit of the site, a carbon assessment (Scopes 1 and 2), and a feasibility study for a solar project, with the additional goal of ensuring compliance with the French energy regulations.

A comprehensive energy audit : Identifying improvement levers and regulatory compliance

The audit conducted by Cleaneo assessed the store’s overall energy status and identified the main energy consumption areas, such as refrigeration, lighting, ventilation, and heating. In addition to the data from the existing monitoring system, Cleaneo deployed its advanced instrumentation to measure the overall impact of each consumption area. This enabled a precise mapping of energy consumption and highlighted optimization opportunities.

Additionally, a feasibility study for the installation of solar panels was carried out, including 3D modeling, a simulation of projected photovoltaic output, and calculations for self-consumption and self-production rates. This thorough study defined concrete actions to reduce energy consumption and maximize financial gains.

Under the French regulations, which require buildings to reduce energy consumption by 40% by 2030, Cleaneo supported E.Leclerc Valréas by identifying the ideal baseline year (between 2010 and 2019) and uploading consumption data to the OPERAT platform. Priority actions were defined to meet the requirements of this regulation, including substantial energy savings and a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Finally, at the client’s request, Cleaneo also conducted a carbon assessment (Scopes 1 and 2), leveraging the measurements and data collected during the audit to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the store’s environmental footprint, with an emissions reduction plan tailored to the site’s specific characteristics.

Customized support to ensure long-term energy performance

Beyond the initial audit, Cleaneo provides the store with continuous support to ensure optimal and sustainable energy performance. This support spans a full year and aims to establish an effective energy management system. Cleaneo designed an intuitive and customized dashboard with key performance indicators (KPIs) specifically adapted to the site’s needs and activities.

Using data from the monitoring system and audit results, we analyze consumption in detail to identify and correct performance gaps. This support includes regular follow-up meetings to adjust actions based on set objectives and to ensure their impact.

In addition, Cleaneo assists E.Leclerc Valréas with the competitive bidding and selection of contractors to ensure the quality and profitability of technical installations. Thanks to this strategic guidance, we ensure that every step, from defining needs to implementation, remains aligned with the set energy performance goals.

Key figures of the collaboration and our client’s testimonial

The action plan developed translates into a roadmap structured around 18 improvement actions to be implemented over a four-year period. This ambitious program addresses the store’s energy and environmental challenges. The expected benefits include a 70% reduction in energy consumption, with 26% directly stemming from the new photovoltaic installations, along with a reduction of 584 tons of CO₂ emissions.

This partnership between E.Leclerc Valréas and Cleaneo paves the way for profound energy optimization, supported by rigorous technical guidance and performance indicators that set the site on a sustainable trajectory.
